Six Things I learned Traveling with a Baby

Okay so vacationing as a Mom is whole new ball game! I'm not sure it could always be called a 'vacation' for the mom! Maybe just a trip! You still get to change the diapers, feed the baby, watch the baby, only in a new place that baby doesn't know! Making nap and bed times soooo fun! Here are some gems I learned along the way.

1. Why overpack? Unless you're very exotic with your destination there will probably be a Wal-Mart or some equivliant. If the 'what if the world ends' scenario comes up and you need that extra pack of wipes, diapers, sunscreen, yadda yadda get it there!

2. Fimiliarity is a big thing for a baby! Make sure to take his favorite toy, stuffed animal, blanket, yadda yadda. These things can not be replaced at the local store. I also found taking a pillow on the plane was great. It smelled like the house and as the plane took off, he passed out. Which brings me to number three....

3. Try to book the flight during sleeping times. On the way there we went on the night flight and he passed out in my lap. On the way back we went in the middle of the day and I didn't have any luck getting him to sleep! In fact just the oppisite, a screaming baby!

4. Don't try new foods while in a new area. If there's a reaction to something you don't know if it's the enviroment or the new food. Kai got a bit of a heat rash and I wasn't for sure because I had also introduced oatmeal to him. It ended up being the heat but it would have been nice not to have to wonder about the oatmeal. Makes solving the problem easier.

5. Pack babie's fav toy but don't go overboard with all the toys! It's a new enviroment and Kai wanted to touch and see all the new stuff! Forget his toys from home, they were old news! His favorite new toy for traveling was a plastic spoon! Improvise and it entertains longer!

6. Exspect what you dread most to happen! And when it does, get over it! I was dreading being the person with the screaming baby on the plane that everyone was rolling their eyes at. That was my worst fear for the trip and of course it happened! Oh well, there was nothing I could do and the people just had to live with it! No one died and I'm sure no one is still thinking about it. I'm sure not!
